Details

This project focuses on identifying U.S. industries that are experiencing labor shortages and may be more likely to sponsor international student workers for employment-based immigration. Students will use public data, job board trends, and economic reports to evaluate which sectors—such as food services, manufacturing, or retail—demonstrate consistent hiring gaps. The final goal is to produce a sector-specific report that can guide targeted outreach to businesses in one key industry.

Deliverables

Select one industry to focus on (e.g., food service, warehousing, or personal care)

Conduct research to identify labor shortage trends and worker demand in that industry

Identify and summarize 10–15 businesses within that industry that have high hiring activity and may be potential sponsors

Prepare a short report (5–7 pages) outlining findings, with:

  • Industry hiring trend analysis
  • List of potential employers with basic rationale for each
  • Recommendations for next steps in outreach

Mentorship
Regular meetings

Scheduled check-ins to discuss progress, address challenges, and provide feedback.
