Details

Wavegen Technologies is pioneering the development of an advanced positioning system for wave energy converters. This innovative system is designed to optimize energy harvesting efficiency year-round. Currently, the firm is immersed in rigorous research and development processes, with the objective of delivering a commercially viable solution.

The primary objective of this project is to construct a comprehensive simulation model that mirrors a full-scale, real-world application in an accurate manner. The simulation models are expected to be interactive and responsive to the service environment. This implies that the 3D models created should authentically represent various physical properties such as mass, displacement, buoyancy, and tension as they interact with ocean waves possessing defined characteristics, including wave length, wave height, and wave incident angle relative to an array of wave energy generators.

The data procured from these simulations will undergo a thorough analysis to evaluate both the technical and commercial viability of the dynamic adaptive anchoring system.

This will involve several different steps for the students, including:

  • Familiarizing themselves with our research project and objectives.
  • Familiarizing themselves with our simulation and modelling.
  • Running simulations and comparing results to experimental data.
  • Tuning simulation parameters to better match experimental conditions.
  • Reporting the results of simulations.

Bonus steps in the process would also include:

  • Researching other simulations and models to compare our simulation against.
Deliverables

By the end of the project, students should demonstrate:

  • Familiarity with our research objectives, simulations, and modelling
  • Comparison of simulation results to real-life experiments
  • Tuning of parameters to replicate real-life conditions
  • Presentation of simulation results

Bonus steps would include:

  • Comparing our simulation to similar models in the literature

Final deliverables should include

  • A final report.
  • A presentation.
  • Optimization Algorithm (ML)
