Details

The project aims to support WomenatthecentrE in their initiative, "Over-Represented, and Under-Protected," by conducting an environmental scan and literature review. This exploration will focus on identifying culturally relevant, community-driven approaches to reproductive justice for Indigenous, Black, and Afro-Indigenous communities in the Greater Toronto Area/Canada. The project will examine how these approaches, grounded in Indigenous and Black ancestral knowledge, address the unique reproductive health needs of IB-WG2SGDT individuals. It will also explore the systemic barriers these communities face and how culturally relevant methods work to navigate or overcome these challenges. By engaging in this research, the project seeks to contribute to building solidarity within and between these communities and encourage allyship by involving men and boys in critical discussions on gender-based violence and reproductive rights.

Deliverables

The deliverables for this project include a comprehensive literature review and environmental scan, highlighting culturally relevant approaches to reproductive justice. Additionally, the project will produce infographics and research summaries to visually communicate findings. There is also potential for engagement in live or asynchronous knowledge mobilization events and activities to share insights and inform advocacy efforts. This specific task would be ideally undertaken by someone with research, reproductive justice, social service/justice, lived, professional or practice experience.

We are also looking for secondary research support exploring legal ramifications in relation to reproductive injustice issues in Canada. This specific task would ideally be undertaken by a legal student.

The project prioritizes working with folks who have lived experiences as members of Black, Indigenous and Afro-Indigenous communities and those with lived experience as survivors of gender-based violence and reproductive injustice.
