Myco Pet is a fast-growing Canadian pet wellness company offering mushroom-based supplements that support gut health, immunity, joint mobility, and overall vitality for dogs and cats. With a rapidly expanding presence in both e-commerce and retail (now in 70+ stores), the company is preparing to scale from a small, agile team of 7 to a mid-sized organization of 40+ employees.
To support this transition, Myco Pet is focused on operationalizing its business functions, developing internal systems, and preserving its innovative, mission-driven culture as it grows.
Project Objective
To support Myco Pet in its transition from a startup to a scalable, mid-sized organization by designing and implementing scalable systems, operational structures, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). The goal is to improve internal efficiency, strengthen cross-team communication, and support long-term, sustainable growth.
Student Milestones
Phase 1: Project Initiation and Research
Objectives:
- Understand Myco Pet’s organizational structure, values, and growth strategy
- Identify scaling pain points across functions (ops, marketing, sales, HR)
- Define project scope, roles, and expected outcomes
Deliverables:
- Initial project proposal (scope, objectives, methodology)
- Background report on Myco Pet’s current structure and growth plan
- Gantt chart or project timeline with key milestones
Phase 2: Detailed Research & Strategy Development
Objectives:
- Research scale-up best practices for consumer goods and wellness companies
- Conduct a needs assessment through stakeholder interviews or team surveys
- Identify tools and processes needed to support functional growth
Deliverables:
- Research and industry benchmarking report
- Strategy framework for scale-up (core functions, bottlenecks, and priorities)
- Data summary from stakeholder input or internal review
Phase 3: Implementation Planning & Design
Objectives:
- Draft scalable SOPs for core departments: Operations, Sales, Marketing, and HR
- Recommend a scalable team structure and workflows aligned with growth goals
- Propose internal systems for:
- Project management (e.g., Asana, ClickUp)
- Team communication (e.g., Slack, Notion)
- Knowledge sharing & documentation
Deliverables:
- Department-level SOPs (2–3 key processes per department)
- Organizational structure and role design proposal
- Mid-project progress report and internal feedback session
- Draft onboarding & training toolkit for new hires
Phase 4: Execution & Testing
Objectives:
- Pilot key SOPs and internal systems with the current team
- Gather feedback on usability, clarity, and adoption barriers
- Adjust systems based on real-world team needs and workflow dynamics
Deliverables:
- Refined SOPs and finalized documentation templates
- Feedback summary from pilot testing
- Implementation checklist or SOP toolkit version 1.0
- Optional: Video walkthrough or SOP tutorial content
Phase 5: Finalization & Presentation
Objectives:
- Finalize project assets based on testing and client feedback
- Ensure deliverables are practical, scalable, and aligned with Myco Pet’s values
- Present a complete solution with clear steps for rollout
Deliverables:
- Final project report and scale-up roadmap
- Stakeholder presentation (PowerPoint or recorded walkthrough)
- Final deliverables package:
- SOP library (PDF/Google Docs)
- Organizational chart
- Onboarding toolkit (slides, checklists, templates)
