I Like Being Me Books aims to enhance its online presence by upgrading its existing WordPress e-commerce site and refining its marketing strategy. The current website requires improvements in user experience, site navigation, and mobile responsiveness to better serve its customers. Additionally, the company seeks to implement effective marketing techniques to increase online visibility and sales. This project provides an opportunity for learners to apply their knowledge of web development and digital marketing in a real-world setting. The team will focus on optimizing the website's performance, integrating SEO best practices, and developing a cohesive marketing plan. By the end of the project, the learners will have contributed to a more user-friendly and market-competitive online platform.

Deliverables

The project deliverables include a fully upgraded WordPress e-commerce site with improved user experience and mobile responsiveness. The team will also deliver a comprehensive marketing strategy document outlining SEO enhancements, social media engagement plans, and email marketing campaigns. Additionally, a report detailing the implemented changes and their expected impact on customer engagement and sales will be provided.

Founded by longtime educators Sam & Rita, whose shared passion for literacy and cultural representation spans over three decades, this proudly Canadian, Toronto-based platform celebrates Black voices and Africentric stories that uplift, empower, and inspire.

In 1994, Sam and Rita opened their first Afrocentric bookstore in Toronto. It quickly blossomed into a community hub — a vibrant space for authors, artists, educators, and changemakers to connect. Today, ILikeBeingMeBooks.com continues that legacy in the digital age, curating literature that reflects the richness and diversity of the Black experience.

From affirming children’s books to powerful memoirs, health and wellness titles, and justice-oriented literature, our collection is designed to educate, affirm, and engage readers of all ages. We also spotlight independent authors and artists, and offer cultural gifts, audiobooks, and original art, prints, and posters.

Now, as authors themselves, Sam & Rita are bringing their own stories to classrooms, libraries, conferences, and communities across Canada and beyond.
