Sankofa Foundation of Canada is a grassroots, community-rooted organization committed to the empowerment, healing, and advancement of Black and other marginalized youth. Inspired by the African proverb “Sankofa”—“It is not wrong to go back for that which you have forgotten”—we center cultural reclamation as a pathway to identity, resilience, and leadership.
Our work addresses the deep, often unspoken impacts of systemic barriers, racialized trauma, and cultural disconnection. Through year-long, holistic programming, we create safe and transformative spaces for youth to explore their history, build self-worth, and develop tangible life skills. From culturally-responsive mental health workshops, mentorship, and arts,, our youth are not just supported—they are seen, valued, and celebrated.
Sankofa Foundation of Canada stands at the intersection of healing and possibility. We are cultivating a generation that is not only aware of the legacies that shape them but also equipped to challenge injustice, lead with confidence, and reimagine the future on their own terms.

Event Branding and Social Media Poster Design
The Sankofa Foundation of Canada is seeking to enhance its event visibility and engagement through the creation of visually compelling posters. These posters should align with the foundation's branding and the specific themes of various events and projects. The goal is to capture the attention of the target audience and effectively communicate the essence of each event. Learners will apply their graphic design skills and knowledge of branding to produce posters that are not only eye-catching but also consistent with the foundation's mission and values. The project will involve researching the foundation's past events and branding guidelines, understanding the target audience, and designing posters that can be used both in print and on social media platforms. This project provides an opportunity for learners to bridge classroom knowledge with real-world applications in graphic design and marketing.
Logo Redesign
Our organization has been serving hundreds of youth and their families for almost a decade. We would like to update and revamp our existing brand to attract more customers. We would like to work with students to develop a new logo that aligns with our company’s mission and story while providing an appealing design for users. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Familiarizing themselves with our company’s story, mission and vision statements. Analyze the current logo and discuss its symbolism and effectiveness. Brainstorming logo ideas that suit our company and providing justification for each idea. Sketch or digitally draft multiple logo concepts. Designing and testing the best logos to garner input. Participate in peer critiques and group feedback sessions. Create multiple versions (color, black & white, icon-only, etc.). Refining and improving logos based on feedback. Bonus steps in the process would also include: Developing a finalized logo for implementation.
Grant / Proposal Writing
Our organization is interested in addressing societal issues and supporting social causes. However, we are currently facing funding challenges. We would like to collaborate with students to find and complete grant applications. This will involve several different steps for the students, including: Familiarizing themselves with our vision statement and a project we have defined. Developing a needs statement that characterizes the community problem and justifies the need for our project and funding. Identifying potential sponsors and funding opportunities that are a good fit for our organization and project. Increase funding success rates through clear communication, data-driven storytelling, and strategic alignment with funders’ priorities—ultimately supporting the growth, impact, and long-term viability of the organization. Improving the clarity and persuasiveness of our company's grant proposal writing. Secure sustainable funding for organizational programs and initiatives by researching, identifying, and writing compelling grant proposals aligned with the organization’s mission and strategic goals. Bonus steps in the process would also include: Identifying new opportunities for community projects.
