About the Project:

LumeSmart Earth Day is a decade-strong sustainability conference and trade show that connects clean technology leaders, civic partners, and youth to drive environmental action. As we plan for our next phase of growth, we want to explore how AI tools can enhance our business strategy — from outreach and sales to content and operations.

This project invites learners to apply their knowledge of AI tools in business, and help us create a targeted strategic growth plan supported by real AI use cases. Rather than build tools from scratch, students will use existing AI technologies to identify, simulate, or test business enhancements for the conference.

Project Objective:

Develop a focused business growth strategy for LumeSmart Earth Day with 1–2 AI-powered applications that strengthen event operations, marketing, or sponsorship development.

Deliverables

Ideal Learner Profile:

  • Students in AI & Business, Business Technology Management, Digital Strategy, or Innovation & Entrepreneurship
  • Comfortable using or exploring tools like:
  • ChatGPT, Notion AI, Claude (analysis, content)
  • Lumen5, Descript (video/podcast automation)
  • CRM tools or AI sales assistants
  • Knowledge of sustainability is helpful, but not required

Deliverables (Clear, Manageable Tasks):

  1. Business Model Review
  • Short analysis of LumeSmart Earth Day’s structure, goals, and audience
  • Identify pain points or opportunities using AI-driven insight (e.g., sponsorship bottlenecks, limited outreach capacity)
  1. AI Use Case Proposal
  • Propose 1–2 specific, realistic ways to apply AI (e.g., AI-generated sponsor outreach sequences, attendee segmentation, automated podcast summaries of panels)
  1. Proof of Concept or Simulation
  • Create mock outputs (e.g., a chatbot flow, email template series, sample event content using AI)
  • Or simulate usage of a platform (e.g., running a test workflow in Notion AI or ChatGPT)
  1. Final Strategic Report & Deck
  • Include insights, recommendations, AI use cases, sample outputs, and a rollout plan

LumeSmart Earth Day Conference & Trade Show is a dynamic, volunteer-driven initiative that has brought together cleantech leaders, innovators, students, and global changemakers every April since 2015. Founded and led by a passionate woman entrepreneur, this annual event is more than just a conference — it's a platform for education, collaboration, and bold climate action.

This year, we proudly celebrated 10 years of impact at MaRS Discovery District in Toronto — featuring panels with industry leaders, global speakers, and a special pitch stage where youth and early-stage entrepreneurs practiced sharing their ideas in a real-world setting.

For a decade, we’ve championed diversity, clean technology, and community-driven sustainability. Our themes have covered everything from renewable energy and smart cities to AgTech, vertical farming, and youth-led innovation. We’ve partnered with government, academia, startups, and nonprofits to spark meaningful conversations and long-term change.

On Riipen, we welcome students who want to make a difference through hands-on projects in event planning, digital storytelling, speaker coordination, sponsorship outreach, research, content creation, and community engagement. If you’re creative, driven, and care about climate, innovation, or inclusive leadership — there’s a place for you here.
