Details

The Elite Maintenance Group seeks to enhance the efficiency and safety compliance of road construction workers through a dedicated application. This project involves finishing the development of a user-friendly app that allows workers to create or import traffic protection plans, document daily staff information, and streamline the signing off on essential forms such as incident reports and safety talks. The app aims to reduce paperwork, minimize errors, and ensure that all safety protocols are adhered to on-site. By integrating these functionalities, the application will help maintain a high standard of safety and operational efficiency, ultimately contributing to a safer and more organized work environment for road construction teams. The project will focus on creating an intuitive interface that can be easily navigated by workers with varying levels of technical expertise. The app is currently developed using Google Appsheet as a prototype which I think will give the students a great template for what the application should be able to do.

Deliverables

The project deliverables include a fully functional prototype of the application, complete with features for:

  • Host a high-quality PDF library of all existing traffic plans and Signs for Ontario, Canada
  • Selecting or importing traffic protection plans (if plan has been generated in 3rd party software, I'd like to be able to import)
  • Modifying plans with the ability to draw or drop icons onto the PDF
  • Documenting daily staff information
  • Signing off on essential forms (employees sign off on daily form)
  • Sending PDF emails to stake holders upon form submission
  • Being available on the App store and handling substantial number of users

Additionally, the project will deliver a user manual and a brief training session outline to help workers quickly adapt to using the app. The final deliverable will be a report detailing the development process, challenges faced, and recommendations for future improvements.

Elite Maintenance Group is expanding into software as a service. After working in the roadways for many years I noticed the dangers of working on roads and the strict requirements for safety when doing so. I'd like to make that process easier and more streamlined so that everyone knows what the plan is on the road, encouraging communication and forcing everyone to understand and sign off on what the plan is when working on the road. Creating more awareness and hopefully a safer environment.
